Thu 23rd November 2017
Cornish singer-songwriter and X Factor star Benji Matthews will be opening Carclaze Community Primary School’s pop-up shop in White River Place Shopping Centre on December 4th at 10am.
The pop-up shop, which will be situated in South Square opposite the Halifax, will be run by the Year 4 pupils of Carclaze Primary who have written their own Christmas song which has been professionally recorded and made into CDs for them to sell.
The shop will be opened by singer Benji Matthews who recently appeared on X Factor where he made it through to the Six Chair Challenge before being kicked off by judge Louis Walsh.
Benji Matthews, singer-songwriter and X Factor star, said: “I am so looking forward to opening the Carclaze Primary School pop-up shop in White River Place, you’ve got to love a primary school that encourages music. I had a wonderful music teacher in my primary school and it seems Carclaze Primary has the same ethos towards music.
“I can’t wait to hear the kids’ Christmas song and I’m excited to sing some carols with the them as well as perform a couple of my own tracks including my new Christmas song Heartbreak at Christmas.”
The 17-year-old singer, who was described as a ‘rough diamond’ by X Factor judges, will be in White River Place on December 4th and will sing Christmas carols with the Carclaze pupils in South Square from 10am.
He will also perform his new single ‘Heartbreak at Christmas’ and the Year 4 pupils will sing the Christmas song they have created.
This will be the third year that Carclaze Community Primary School has launched a pop-up shop in White River Place with Britain’s Got Talent star Josh Curnow opening the shop last year.
The shop will be open from December 4th – 8th in the run up to Christmas and the children are hoping to sell 1,000 copies of their CD at £3 each, or two for £5.
All of the money raised will go towards future projects and school trips for the children.
Richard Hurst, Manager of White River Place Shopping Centre, said: “We are so thrilled to have Benji Matthews opening the Carclaze pop-up shop with Jenny and her Year 4 pupils. He’s extremely popular in Cornwall after his appearance on the X Factor and we are looking forward to have him perform his new Christmas song here at White River Place.
“It will be an amazing experience for the Carclaze pupils who get to meet Benji and sing with him. He will be a role model to so many children who want to pursue their dream of becoming a singer-songwriter. Everyone is excited to see the children perform in South Square and to hear Benji’s new single.”
