Elfie Your Selfie with White River Place
Wed 22nd November 2017
Local illustrator Emma McCann is painting the
town with a bit of festive fun this Christmas bringing an ‘Elfie Your Selfie’ window
display to White River Place.
Five windows of a unit, situated opposite
Superdrug, will be painted, covering them in a snowy, festive design to
advertise what’s on over the Christmas period and to promote St Austell
The windows will feature an information panel on
St Austell Library, a Christmas events timetable outlining what’s on across the
town and at White River Place and an interactive illustration of Santa’s Elves
posing for a selfie.
Members of the public are encouraged to join in
with the ‘Elfie Selfie’ by taking a picture of themselves standing in front of
the Elves. They can then upload their images to social media with the hashtag #WhiteRiverElfieSelfie.
Emma McCann, who lives near St Blazey, is the
artist tasked with painting the windows and has published two original books
and worked as an illustrator for titles such as Bear Grylls Adventures and
Hysterical Histories. She also works as a library assistant at St Austell
Library two days a week where she is in charge of children’s events.

“We are really looking forward to having one of Emma’s illustrations on display
at White River Place. She is such an amazing local talent and we’re pleased to
be able to show our support to her and to St Austell Library.
“With Christmas on its way and our
first late night shopping event coming up it’s important to create something fun,
informative and interactive to get our shoppers excited for the festive season.
“The ‘Elfie Your Selfie’ window
display will be a great way to engage with our shoppers, both in the shopping
centre and on social media and is a fantastic way to showcase Emma’s amazing
McCann, the illustrator who will be painting the windows, said: "This
is such a fun commission and I can't wait to get stuck in! Pretty much all of
my work now is created digitally so I'm really excited about getting my hands
dirty with some real paint for a change.
“I've also never done anything on
this scale before so fingers crossed it'll all go to plan! Maybe Santa's elves
might lend me a hand..."
The painted windows will be finished and on
display in time for the St Austell Town’s Light Switch On event which is taking
place on November 28th from 4pm – 8pm.
The windows will remain painted until early January
