Free summer fun for St Austell as Terrific Tuesdays return
A host of free, family-friendly entertainment returns this summer at White River Place in the heart of St Austell with dance classes, animal encounters and visits from favourite children’s characters.
The shopping centre is once again hosting its popular Terrific Tuesdays programme every Tuesday in August, to help keep the kids entertained during the school summer holidays with free events and activities on offer.
This year will see the return of the popular Cornwall Parties events, which include a meet and greet with much-loved characters like Lego Batman and Poppy from Trolls alongside a day of singalongs, fun and games.
Other mascots heading to White River Place include Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast, as well as popular Paw Patrol characters and Peppa Pig hosted by Plymouth company Music Makers.
A new addition to the Terrific Tuesdays line-up this year will be a visit from Hendra Farm, a local animal farm based in Looe, hosting its popular animal encounter day, and St Austell-based dance group 4Real Dance will be staging a festival of dance in the shopping centre.
The first Terrific Tuesday takes place on August 1st with more events on August 8th, August 15th and August 22nd.
All activities will take place between 11am – 4pm and are completely free to attend.
In addition to the Tuesday events, this year there will also be energetic and fun dance workshops held every Thursday morning, which will be free to attend. Open to all, including the grown-ups, sessions will be hosted by local dance group 4Funx Sake. You will be able to sign up for all four weeks, and if the weather lets us down, the dance workshops will move indoors to use a currently empty shop unit, so there’s no excuse not to come and join the 4FS team.
Richard Hurst, Manager of White River Place, said: “Every year we work hard to put on an even bigger and better programme of free entertainment for our Terrific Tuesdays events here at White River Place, and these fun, family-friendly days continue to be extremely popular with children of all ages, whilst helping parents who can struggle to keep the kids entertained during the long school summer holidays.
“This year we have a great selection of activities on offer, including animal encounters, mascot meet and greets, disco and party games, music workshops and even a festival of dance led by our friends at 4 Real Dance, as well as Thursday classes by the equally brilliant 4Funx Sake. We hope that families in the area and the wider community will come and take advantage of the free events we will be hosting here in the heart of St Austell.”
The Terrific Tuesdays programme for 2017 in full:
• Tuesday 1st August
Animal encounter day: We will be joined by an array of wonderful animals from Hendra Farm, a local animal farm who will host a fun day of animal shows and encounters. Stroke an owl, pet a snake or be brave a hold a spider! Whether you’re an animal lover or just fancy facing a fear, the team will have everyone involved by the end of the day. There will be a selection of animals in St Austell to meet, including owls, reptiles, snakes, spiders and many more. Sessions and shows will be held throughout the day from 11am – 4pm, with the chance to hold the animals and learn all about them.
• Tuesday 8th August
A day of singing, dancing and mascots with Music Makers Plymouth: Join in with Katy and her special friends for a jam-packed day of singing and dancing at White River Place. Guest mascots who will meet children throughout the day include Princess Belle from the recent Disney film Beauty and the Beast, everyone’s favourite rescue dogs Chase and Skye from Paw Patrol, as well as the adventurous Peppa Pig! Join dancing sessions with musical instruments, ribbons, pom pos and more.
• Tuesday 15th August
Our friends at Cornwall Parties will be back to entertain boys and girls of all ages with an exciting day of music, mascots and fun party games. There will be a disco running throughout the day with games (with the odd sweet prize!) and party dances, as well as appearances from some very special characters.
Lego Batman will be walking around St Austell town centre saving the town from crime and meeting all the children, alongside his friend Poppy from Trolls. The characters will be available for photos in a dedicated Photo Booth area as well from 11am – 4pm.
• Tuesday 22nd August
A festival of dance at White River Place: We are delighted to welcome local St Austell dance company 4Real Dance to the shopping centre who will be hosting a free, special festival of dance for everyone to get involved with for our last event during the summer holidays.
There will be a combination of various different dance styles including street dance, salsa, ballroom and Zumba workshops and performances throughout the day from 11am – 4pm. Everyone of all abilities and all ages can get involved in the workshops and be wowed by various performances from the talented dancers during the festival celebration.
• Thursday 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th
As well as our Terrific Tuesdays, this year there will also be Thursday morning dance club with another local St Austell dance group, 4FunxSake.
This dynamic dance group will hold sessions every Thursday from 10am – 12pm during August, which will be free to everyone over the age of three, and the grown-ups are welcome to join in as well. Full details below;
For children aged three – 10 years, sessions taking place will be fun street dance classes. For older dancers, sessions taking place will be commercial and street dance on August 3rd and 17th, and lyrical classes will take place on August 10th and 24th.
