White River Place hosts celebration of music for BBC Music Day
Thu 15th June 2017
White River Place has once again teamed up with Cornwall Music Education Hub to host a free concert, workshops and musical performances as part of a nationwide celebration of music on Thursday 15th June.
The shopping hub will help host BBC Music Day for the second consecutive year, with local students, bands, choirs and groups set to showcase an eclectic mix of musical talent in the town centre.
Everything from Samba classes to singing, early years music sessions and Taiko drumming are being organised for the event, and a full list of acts will be available on Facebook
and at the events page for BBC Music Day
This year, this exciting event will also offer music lovers an evening of entertainment with a family-friendly music concert. The free gig will see local bands Turquoise Zebra and HotSpace take to the stage to perform a set list of well-known funk and disco classics.
Choirs and soloists from Penrice College, St Austell Chamber Orchestra and Cornwall College, St Austell, are also joining the line-up for the musical event.
The Cornwall Music Education Hub has partnered with BBC Music, White River Place, St Austell Bay Radio and St Austell Town BID for this week’s musical showcase, which will be held from 10am in St Austell town centre. The evening concert will run from 6pm -8.30pm.
Bill Holland, Operations Manager at White River Place
: “We are really excited to once again be playing host to this amazing musical event. Following last year’s successful BBC Music Day, we really wanted to bring something new to music lovers so we have planned a day and evening of workshops and performances, culminating in what is set to be a great concert by local bands Turquoise Zebra and HotSpace.
“Music has a powerful way of bringing people together to enjoy and celebrate creativity, diversity and talent and we are looking forward to helping to showcase a range of fantastic musical entertainment here in St Austell.”
Tanya Moore, Manager of the Cornwall Music Education Hub, said
: “BBC Music Day is a great opportunity for us to showcase to the wider public the fantastic musical talent of young people in Cornwall. The workshops will also offer children the chance to try out something new, including instruments they may not have seen before.”
The theme of this year’s UK-wide celebration is the power of music, aiming to bring people together and create unforgettable memories.
The BBC Music event will also include a host of live concerts from acts including Texas, a chorus of bell-ringers and classical music initiative involving 50,000 school pupils. There will also be an unveiling of 45 new blue plaques by BBC Local Radio and The British Plaque Trust to commemorate people or places that have influenced the musical landscape.
