Dance day for Terrific Tuesdays

Tue 9th August 2016

A day of dance takes place at White River Place for the third Terrific Tuesday with performances and workshops organised and hosted by St Austell-based company 4Real Dance.

We are staging weekly jam-packed days of entirely free, family-friendly entertainments to help keep the kids entertained during the long school summer holidays.

After the first two Terrific Tuesday events saw crowds pour into the town to enjoy varied shows and activities, the third fun day on August 16th will be entirely devoted to dance – with a chance to try out different styles and techniques yourself, as well as being wowed by talented local performers, with classes for all ages and abilities held in both Aylmer Square and South Square.

Some of the dancers will also be pedalling on exercise bikes as part of a sponsored cycle to help the group raise funds to send two of the company’s teams to the World Championships in Glasgow.

The schedule for Terrific Tuesday on August 16th includes:

11am: Contemporary and lyrical performances by Collide Dance

11.30am: Contemporary dance workshop hosted by Collide Dance

12pm: Street dance performances by 4Real Dance, including the award-winning crews who will be competing at the World Championships later this month

12.30pm: Hip hop dance workshop 1pm: Commercial dance workshop

1.30pm: Dance performances by Alive and Kicking, the 4Real company Active Seniors dance group

 1.45pm: Waacking dance workshop

 2.15pm: Urban dance workshop

3pm: Performances by 4Real Dance and Collide Dance followed by a massive freestyle session – open to everyone to join in!

Angie Smith, Principal of 4Real Dance, said: “We had a fantastic reception when we hosted a Dance Day at White River Place during the Terrific Tuesdays programme in 2015, and can’t wait to return with an even bigger and better packed schedule of performances and workshops for 2016. This is a great opportunity to come and watch some incredibly talented local dancers showing off their moves, then try out different dance styles yourself, and find out more about joining a local dance group.

“We’re hoping St Austell will also help us raise money to send our talented dancers to the World Championships in Glasgow by sponsoring the performers who will be pedalling on exercise bikes during our sponsored cycle during the day.”

Richard Hurst, Manager of White River Place Shopping Centre, said: “We love hosting Terrific Tuesday events every summer to help parents keep the kids amused in the summer holidays without having to break the bank, and every week we lay on different, fun, family-friendly entertainments that are entirely free, trying to offer something different to suit all ages and tastes.

“We’re delighted to welcome 4Real Dance back to White River Place to host another of our Terrific Tuesday events after their visit last year was such a hit with visitors to St Austell, and we can’t wait to see what these talented local dancers bring to delight people in the town centre on Tuesday.”

The following week, Terrific Tuesday events on August 23rd will include the chance to learn how to play the African drums, with Matt from Big Bang hosting a music workshop from 11am until 1pm, followed by Karla’s Parties in town from 2pm-4pm with face painting, glitter tattoos, music, bubble machine and arts and craft workshops.

There will be a final, surprise Terrific Tuesday on August 30th with details being announced on the White River Place Facebook page soon – follow the centre at White River Place on Facebook or on Twitter @whiteriverplace.
