Flash mob surprises shoppers
Sat 25th April 2015
Visitors to White River Place had a surprise on Saturday
(April 25th) when a flash mob of young people broke into an
unannounced hip hop routine.
The St Austell shopping centre hosted 32 members of Cornwall-based dance
company 4Real Dance, with young dancers aged from eight to 19 years old showing
off their moves in the unexpected performance to the delight of onlookers.
The flash mob was staged by members of the dance club’s Charlestown and
Probus groups as a way of raising awareness for upcoming fundraising event WIG
Wednesday. People are being urged to wear wigs for the day on May 20th
to raise money for CLIC Sargent, a charity supporting children and young people
Principal of 4Real Dance, said: “We do as much as we can to support charities like CLIC
Sargent, which is such a vital organisation doing amazing work. We organised
the flash mob in White River Place to help build awareness of WIG Wednesday,
and hopefully persuade more people to wear a wig on May 20th and
raise money for the charity. Lots of our dancers wore funny wigs, and then handed out leaflets about
WIG Wednesday afterwards. People were really taken aback when our crews first began
dancing but a crowd quickly built up and it was great to see so many smiles
with everyone enjoying the show.”
Manager of White River Place Shopping Centre, said: “Dozens of shoppers
stopped to watch the fantastic show put on by members of 4Real Dance and we
were delighted to help these enthusiastic young dancers showcase their skills
at the same time as generating support for the major fundraising initiative
planned by CLIC Sargent on WIG Wednesday.”
4Real Dance runs classes in street dance, house and commercial dance
held in Charlestown and Probus.
